The second day of San Jose Sharks Training Camp brought another look at the competition developing inside the roster. Friday’s activities included practices for the Black and Teal groups, along with a scrimmage at Tech CU Arena.
Young Players Make Their Push
Defenseman Luca Cagnoni continued to draw attention while working alongside veteran Dmitry Orlov. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky highlighted Cagnoni’s improved strength, speed and defensive play through the opening days of camp.
Ivar Stenberg, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, has also been closely evaluated while skating with Alexander Wennberg and Collin Graf. At just 18 years old, Stenberg is getting an early opportunity to show how quickly his game can translate to the NHL level.
Competition Sets the Tone
San Jose also experimented with special-teams combinations, with Sam Dickinson working at the point alongside Igor Chernyshov, Michael Misa, Stenberg and Wennberg.
With Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith already established as key pieces of the Sharks’ young core, this Training Camp is becoming a battle for bigger roles. San Jose continues camp Saturday before opening preseason play against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
