LAFC Returns to Winning Ways with 3-1 Victory Over Austin FC

Los Angeles FC returned to winning ways Wednesday night at BMO Stadium, defeating Austin FC 3-1
behind a second-half offensive surge led by Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-Min.

With the MLS regular season approaching its conclusion, the Black & Gold entered the match facing mounting pressure to secure their position in the Western Conference playoff race. After a frustrating stretch of results, including a 1-1 draw against a 10-man Vancouver Whitecaps over the weekend,
LAFC needed a convincing performance to regain momentum.

Under interim head coach Xavi Tamarit, LAFC controlled much of the attacking action in the opening half but struggled to turn opportunities into goals. Despite generating 13 shots before the break, the home side entered halftime locked in a scoreless draw.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 52nd minute when Son worked his way through Austin’s defense before finding Bouanga inside the penalty area. The Gabonese forward finished from close range to give LAFC a 1-0 advantage.

Austin responded in the 66th minute when Brandon Vázquez capitalized on an LAFC turnover and fired home the equalizer. However, the visitors’ celebration was short-lived. Just one minute later, an attempted clearance by Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver deflected off Son and fell
directly to Bouanga, who calmly finished to restore LAFC’s lead.

The Black & Gold continued pressing forward, and in the 72nd minute, Son added a third goal after
connecting with a cross from Jacob Shaffelburg, putting the match beyond Austin’s reach.

The victory marked an important response for LAFC following a difficult stretch of the season. Bouanga’s brace and Son’s goal highlighted the attacking partnership that could prove vital as the club prepares for the postseason.

For Tamarit, the result also represented his first victory as interim head coach and a much-needed boost in confidence for a team looking to rediscover its identity.

With the regular season winding down, LAFC will now turn its attention to an upcoming road matchup against New York City FC, hoping to build on Wednesday’s performance and carry renewed momentum into the final stretch of the playoff race.
