Los Angeles Spark Come Back with a Friday Night Victory Against Toronto Tempo

Crypto.com Arena was filling up with fans wanting to see a powerful performance from the Los Angeles Sparks on May 15th, 2026 as they faced the Toronto Tempo. The Toronto Tempo and the Los Angeles Sparks both carry a strong team full of woman ready to display their full ability on the court regardless if home or away. The Los Angeles Sparks have been on a losing streak and fans have been questioning when they would see a win. Will tonight be the night? Fans entered the arena in bright Sparks jerseys eager to start their weekend of with a blazing game from their home team.

The starting five for the Los Angeles Sparks consisted of Dearica Hamby, Nneka Ogwumike, Kelsey Plum, Erica Wheeler, and Rae Burrell. What a powerful starting five this was for Toronto Tempo to face off in Los Angeles; away from their home. 

The first quarter flew by as both teams quarreled to enter the second quarter with points on top. The defense for the Los Angeles Sparks was focused on keeping their lead secured all through the first two quarters and showed successful with a 30-15 final for the first quarter, however, scoring less points with 18-21 in the second quarter.

Toronto Tempo was not going down without a fight and trailed right behind the Los Angeles Sparks. Many UCLA fans showed out for Toronto Tempo Guard #1, Kiki Rice who was drafted by the Tempo back in April of 2026. 

Brittney Sykes dominated tonight’s game for the Toronto Tempo with 27 points, giving the Los Angeles Sparks some intimidation on the offensive side of the court.  However, Cameron Brink had the entire arena on their feet cheering and in shock at her determination to put a halt to the Toronto Tempo and their attempt to find a lead against them at their home court.

Honorable mention of the night, Kate Martin (#21) made her debut for the Los Angeles Sparks and the crowd provided a standing ovation with cheers. Whistles sounded through the crowd, claps that kept getting louder as Kate Martin walked closer to the court. Earlier in the week, the LA Sparks announced that guard Kate Martin would be welcomed to LA as they signed her to a development contract. Kate Martin took to her Instagram with a story that read “Grateful for the warm welcome & grateful for dubs.”

The game kept burning with passion from both teams to search for that lead up until the final buzzer sounded through the stadium. Fortunately for the Los Angeles Sparks, their hard work payed off as they persisted and won tonight’s match 99-95. 

Player of the Game was named to be Kelsey Plum (#10) with 27 points and 9 assists. Nneka Ogwumike (#30) followed with 20 points and Dearica Hamby (#5) with a total of a 19 point contribution.
