San Diego FC delivered a statement performance Wednesday night at Snapdragon Stadium, dominating Austin FC from start to finish in a commanding 5-0 victory in front of an energized crowd.
The home team came out aggressively from the opening whistle and wasted little time taking control of the match. David Vazquez opened the scoring in the 8th minute, finishing from close range after an attacking sequence that immediately ignited the fans. Just minutes later, Anders Dreyer doubled the lead in the 17th minute after a well-worked build up, assisted by Pedro Soma. The atmosphere became electric.
San Diego continued to dictate possession and tempo throughout the first half, constantly pressuring Austin FC’s back line while limiting opportunities on the counterattack. The home side entered halftime with a 2-0 advantage and had complete control of the match.
The pressure continued after the break as Soma added a third goal in the 54th minute off an assist from Alex Mighten. San Diego never slowed down offensively, and created multiple dangerous chances throughout the second half. Marcus Ingvarsten added another goal in the 79th minute, and Vazquez bookended the night in stoppage time with another goal. As the game came to a close, the home crowd erupted, as it was one of San Diego’s most dominant performances of the season.
By the end, San Diego FC completely controlled the match statistically. They outshot Austin FC 21-7, dominated possession and consistently created opportunities in the attacking third.
The atmosphere inside Snapdragon Stadium matched the performance on the field. Both the players and the supporters had high intensity energy from kickoff to the final whistle as San Diego FC secured an emphatic home victory.
