LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Los Angeles Sparks fell 78-71 to the Atlanta Dream Monday night at Crypto.com Arena, despite a career night from Nneka Ogwumike.
Ogwumike led the Sparks with a season-high 27 points and 16 rebounds, but Los Angeles struggled to overcome Atlanta’s control on the glass and a strong second-half performance from the Dream. The loss drops the Sparks to 13-25 on the season and marks their seventh loss in their last eight games.
Atlanta was led by Angel Reese, who made WNBA history with 26 rebounds, setting a new single-game league record. Reese also surpassed the WNBA’s single-season rebounding record during the game, finishing with 458 rebounds on the season. She added 11 points for her 27th double-double of the year.
Additionally, Allisha Gray finished with 20 points, while Rhyne Howard added 18 and Naz Hillmon scored 12. The victory completed a 4-0 West Coast road trip for the Dream and moved them to 25-13 on the season.
The Sparks kept the game competitive early, using their defense to stay within reach of the Dream. Los Angeles entered halftime trailing, but Atlanta began to pull away in the third quarter with a 16-4 run that gave the Dream control of the game.
The Sparks struggled offensively throughout the night, shooting just 38% from the field and 16% from three-point range while committing 11 turnovers. Atlanta’s dominance on the boards, led by Reese, proved to be one of the biggest differences between the two teams.
The loss also completed a 3-0 season sweep for Atlanta over Los Angeles. With the Sparks now at 13-25, the team will look to regroup for its remaining games of the regular season.
