FULLERTON, Calif. — Hope International University tipped off its 2025–26 campaign in commanding fashion on Tuesday night, defeating Bethesda University 98–68 at Darling Pavilion. The Royals’ dynamic duo of Addy G’Bye and Nick Hopkins powered the win, combining for an impressive 53 points in the blowout.
G’Bye made an immediate impact in his HIU debut, erupting for 30 points on a highly efficient 10-of-14 shooting — including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. The newcomer also added five rebounds and two steals across 31 minutes of action, setting the tone early for the Royals.
Hopkins Double Double
Hopkins, equally dominant, recorded a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double in just 24 minutes, matching G’Bye’s shooting accuracy at 10-of-14 from the field. Fifteen of his points came in the second half as Hope International broke the game wide open.
Beyond the top scorers, CJ Fisher chipped in eight points, while Jorren Edmonds filled the stat sheet with six points, five assists, five rebounds, and five steals, showcasing his two-way impact.
The Royals’ offense clicked early and often, shooting 51.4% (36-of-70) from the floor, while their defense held the Flames to just 39.3% shooting. Camron Durr led Bethesda with 16 points.
Addy G'Bye Leading The Way With 30 Points
After a competitive first half that saw HIU take a 45-38 lead into the break, the Royals came out firing in the second. Following a quick Bethesda basket to cut the deficit to five, Hopkins ignited a 13-0 Hope run, scoring eight points during that stretch. The lead ballooned to 26 midway through the half, and the Royals never looked back.
G’Bye’s hot hand kept HIU afloat early when they trailed 21-12 midway through the first half. His string of three-pointers sparked a 33-17 surge to close the period, giving the Royals control heading into halftime.
Hope International now looks to build on its strong start when it returns to Darling Pavilion on Wednesday, November 5, hosting Stanton College at 6:00 p.m.
