LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Los Angeles Sparks suffered a nightmare Thursday night at Crypto.com Arena, falling to the Atlanta Dream 124-88 in a one-sided matchup that officially eliminated Los Angeles from playoff contention. Atlanta dominated from the opening tip, building a 34-12 lead after the first quarter and never allowing the Sparks to find their footing.
The Dream’s offense was firing on all cylinders, shooting 63.9% from the field and 61.5% from three-point range. Rhyne Howard led all scorers with 26 points, knocking down five three-pointers, while Angel Reese delivered one of the most efficient performances of her season. Reese finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists while shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the field, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
Atlanta’s offensive explosion set a new franchise record with 124 points. The Dream also received 14 points from Naz Hillmon and 13 from Allisha Gray, while Jordin Canada controlled the offense with 11 assists. Atlanta’s ball movement and shooting kept the Sparks chasing throughout the night as the Dream extended their advantage to as many as 42 points.
The Sparks entered the night needing a strong finish to keep their postseason hopes alive, but the loss officially eliminated Los Angeles from playoff contention. The Sparks fell to 12-24 on the season, while Atlanta improved to 23-13 and continued its strong run down the stretch.
The loss also continued a difficult stretch for Los Angeles, which has now dropped six consecutive games. With the playoffs no longer within reach, the Sparks will turn their attention toward finishing the regular season and evaluating what comes next for a team that has shown flashes of promise but struggled to find consistency.
Los Angeles will return to Crypto.com Arena on Saturday, August 22, to host the Connecticut Sun, looking to end the losing streak and close out the season with a stronger finish.
