ALMIRÓN TAKES OVER D.C.: Paraguay Star Strikes Twice to Sink Bolivia 2-0 at Audi Field

WASHINGTON, D.C. — September 27, 2026 — Paraguay walked away from a cold and rain-soaked Audi Field with a 2-0 international friendly victory over Bolivia on Sunday, powered by a two-goal performance from Miguel Almirón.

Cloudy skies, steady rain and chilly conditions surrounded the match in the nation’s capital, with only brief stretches of dry weather providing relief throughout the evening. Despite the difficult conditions, Paraguay found its rhythm early and turned to one of its biggest attacking threats to break through Bolivia’s defense.

Miguel Almirón, wearing the No. 10 shirt for Paraguay, opened the scoring in the 17th minute, giving his side an early 1-0 advantage. Paraguay’s 4-4-2 formation allowed its forwards to consistently challenge Bolivia’s back line, while Bolivia attempted to counter with a 3-5-2 setup and additional numbers through the midfield.

Bolivia remained within striking distance entering halftime, but Paraguay wasted little time extending its advantage after the break.

In the 48th minute, Almirón struck again, completing his brace and putting Paraguay ahead 2-0 just three minutes into the second half. His second goal gave Paraguay greater control of the match and left Bolivia needing to chase two goals in increasingly difficult conditions.

The statistics reflected a match that was more competitive than the final scoreline might suggest. Bolivia produced 10 total shots, putting four on target, while Paraguay recorded nine attempts with five on target. Paraguay’s ability to convert its opportunities ultimately made the difference, with Almirón responsible for both goals.

The physicality of the international matchup also became increasingly evident. Match official Rosendo Mendoza oversaw a contest that featured 25 combined fouls, with Paraguay committing 13 and Bolivia 12. Paraguay received three yellow cards, while Bolivia was shown two.

Bolivia continued searching for a way back into the match, but Paraguay’s defensive organization prevented its opponent from turning possession and attacking pressure into goals. Bolivia’s 3-5-2 provided numbers across the center of the field, but Paraguay’s structured 4-4-2 and dynamic forward movement proved difficult to contain when opportunities opened in transition.

When the final whistle sounded at Audi Field, Paraguay had secured the 2-0 international friendly victory and a clean sheet in Washington, D.C.

On a rainy and chilly Sunday in the nation’s capital, the night belonged to Miguel Almirón. Two goals, three points on the scoreboard, and a decisive performance from Paraguay’s No. 10 proved to be the difference.
