The match remained level and tense into the closing stages, with fouls from both sides shaping the final exchanges, until Denis Bouanga forced a blocked effort from outside the box in the 90th minute to set the stage for what followed. In the first minute of stoppage time, Eddie Segura delivered the moment of the match, curling a right-footed shot from outside the box into the bottom right corner to give LAFC a 1–0 lead they would not relinquish. The goal sealed the win on the night, moving LAFC into a stronger position on aggregate and setting up a decisive third and final match on Wednesday against Querétaro.
LAFC’s late heroics capped off a match defined by fine margins, with both goalkeepers standing tall for most of the night.
