The USC Trojans men’s basketball came up just short Saturday afternoon, falling 71–70 to the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball in a heartbreaker at Galen Center. In a game that featured 12 lead changes and intensity from start to finish, USC had a chance in the closing seconds but could not convert, as Oregon escaped with a one-point victory.
USC controlled much of the first half behind disciplined half-court offense and strong perimeter shooting, taking a narrow lead into the break. The Trojans’ defense forced key turnovers and limited second-chance opportunities early, but Oregon responded in the second half with improved ball movement and timely three-point shooting. The Ducks gradually chipped away before taking the lead in the final minute.
In the closing sequence, USC executed out of a timeout and generated a quality look, but the shot rimmed out as time expired. The loss is a tough one for the Trojans, who showed resilience and energy throughout but were undone by late-game execution. With conference play tightening, USC will need to regroup quickly as every possession — and every game — grows more critical down the stretch.
