Clippers offense fails to find a rhythm

SAN FRANCISCO — In a low-scoring defensive battle, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 98-79 at the Chase Center on Tuesday night. Despite 20 points from James Harden and 18 from Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers’ offense went cold in the second half, allowing the Warriors to pull away. The win breaks a seven-game losing streak for Golden State against the Clippers.

Warriors' balanced attack gets the win

While Harden scored all of his 20 points by halftime and helped the Clippers to a 49-46 halftime lead, his offense disappeared entirely after the break. Harden’s struggles were emblematic of the entire Clippers’ squad, which was held to just 30 points in the final two quarters. Harden finished the game with only one assist, highlighting the offense’s inability to find a rhythm or create opportunities for teammates.

Warriors’ defense stifles Clippers’ attack
The Warriors, led by Jimmy Butler III’s 21 points and defensive pressure, locked down the Clippers in the final two quarters. They forced 16 turnovers from Los Angeles and limited the Clippers to their lowest point total in four years. Golden State’s stifling defense held the Clippers to 36.6% shooting from the field and an abysmal 18.2% from beyond the arc.

Warriors get timely offense from role players
While Stephen Curry added 19 points and eight assists, the Warriors got key contributions from their supporting cast. In addition to Butler’s game-high 21 points, Quinten Post and Brandin Podziemski each had 12 points. The balanced scoring proved to be the difference, especially in the third quarter when the Warriors went on a 10-2 run to take a commanding lead.

Zubac and Clippers’ bench provide a spark
Ivica Zubac was a bright spot for the Clippers, adding 14 points and a season-best 13 rebounds. Despite his strong performance, it was not enough to overcome the offensive drought experienced by Harden and the rest of the team. The loss moves the Clippers to a 2-2 record on the season.
