In a tightly contested Western Conference clash, Portland Timbers stunned LAFC at BMO Stadium with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a decisive goal from midfielder Cristhian Paredes.
The match, held under the bright lights of Los Angeles, started with LAFC pushing the tempo early. Denis Bouanga and Mateusz Bogusz threatened the Timbers’ backline with a series of quick combinations and long-range efforts, but Portland’s defense, anchored by Zac McGraw and goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, held firm.
Despite LAFC’s dominance in possession, it was Portland who broke the deadlock. In the 64th minute, a quick counter-attack found Paredes making a late run into the box. Santiago Moreno slipped a perfectly timed pass through the LAFC defense, and Paredes coolly slotted it past Hugo Lloris to give the visitors the lead.
From there, it was a tactical battle. Portland dropped into a compact shape, frustrating LAFC’s attempts to find an equalizer. Substitute Kei Kamara provided a late spark for the home side, but his efforts were either blocked or snuffed out by a disciplined Timbers defense.

As the final whistle blew, Portland celebrated a hard-earned three points, snapping LAFC’s unbeaten home run and proving once again that BMO Stadium is no fortress for the fearless.
Cristhian Paredes may not always wear the headlines, but tonight, he wore the cape — delivering a dagger that echoed across the Western Conference playoff race.
