Six-Goal Chaos at Segra Field: Loudoun, Louisville Trade Blows in 3-3 Thriller

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — April 10, 2026

Under the lights at Segra Field, Loudoun United FC and Louisville City FC delivered one of the most electrifying matches of the USL Championship season, finishing in a dramatic 3-3 draw packed with clinical finishes, set-piece brilliance, and relentless momentum swings.

Loudoun wasted no time setting the tone. In just the 7th minute, Noah Adnan carved open Louisville’s backline with an articulate, perfectly weighted pass that found Thorleifur Úlfarsson in stride. Úlfarsson made no mistake, driving a powerful finish past the keeper to give Loudoun an early 1-0 advantage.

Louisville responded with composure. In the 19th minute, a well-delivered corner found Brandon Dayes, who rose above the defense and buried a header to level the match at 1-1. Just six minutes later, Louisville struck again. Tola Showunmi capitalized on space inside the box, placing a precise shot into the lower left corner to give the visitors a 2-1 lead in the 25th minute.

But Loudoun wasn’t backing down.

Right before halftime, in the 44th minute, Loudoun executed a beautifully designed tiki-taka style set piece. The quick, fluid movement completely dismantled Louisville’s defensive shape, allowing Úlfarsson to smash home his second goal of the night and tie the match 2-2 heading into the break.

The second half carried the same intensity.

In the 61st minute, Loudoun regained the lead through another set piece. A corner kick found James Murphy at the back post, who redirected the ball into the path of Boluwatife Akinyode. Rising with authority, Akinyode powered a header into the net to make it 3-2, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

Yet again, Louisville had an answer.

In the 71st minute, a dangerous cross into the box was met by Evan Davila, whose spectacular header sailed just beyond the reach of Loudoun goalkeeper Adam Beaudry. The equalizer locked the game at 3-3, where it would ultimately remain despite both sides pushing for a late winner.

The result reflects a fiercely competitive matchup where neither side was willing to concede control. Loudoun showcased creativity and precision in attack, particularly through set pieces, while Louisville proved clinical and resilient in key moments.

Loudoun United FC will look to build on this performance as they prepare to face Hartford Athletic on April 18th at Trinity Health Stadium.
