The Los Angeles Clippers fell to the Sacramento Kings 118–109 at Intuit Dome on March 13, as Sacramento pulled away in the second half to secure the road victory.
Despite the loss, Kawhi Leonard delivered another strong scoring performance for Los Angeles, finishing with 31 points. Leonard kept the Clippers competitive throughout the night with his efficient mid-range shooting and ability to create offense in key moments.
Leonard’s night, however, was interrupted by two separate injuries during the game. The Clippers forward first left the floor after taking contact to the eye, but he later returned to action and continued to contribute offensively. Later in the game, Leonard suffered an ankle injury and was forced to leave the contest again. This time he did not return, leaving the Clippers without their leading scorer during a crucial stretch.
Sacramento was led by DeMar DeRozan, who scored 27 points in front of a hometown crowd. DeRozan, a Los Angeles native, played with poise down the stretch, knocking down key baskets that helped the Kings maintain control late in the game.
Another major storyline of the night came from Russell Westbrook, who recorded a triple-double while impacting the game in multiple ways for Sacramento. Westbrook filled the stat sheet with scoring, rebounds, and assists while pushing the pace for the Kings. Like DeRozan, Westbrook is also a Los Angeles native, and the veteran guard previously played for the Clippers earlier in his career, adding an extra layer of familiarity to his performance at Intuit Dome.
The Clippers battled throughout the contest, but Sacramento’s balanced offense and timely execution allowed them to create separation late. Los Angeles had several opportunities to close the gap, but the Kings responded with key defensive stops and efficient scoring in the final minutes.
The Clippers will now look to regroup as they prepare for their next matchup against the San Antonio Spurs on March 16.
