Last night’s clash between the Washington Huskies and the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl was nothing short of dominant for Washington, who stomped the Bruins 48–14. The Huskies built a commanding 20–0 lead by halftime and steadily pulled away, finally topping 40 points as UCLA began to show signs of life late in the third quarter. Washington’s defense was suffocating—UCLA managed just 10 first downs over the whole game.
The star of the show was quarterback Demond Williams Jr., who put together a clinical performance both through the air and on the ground. He went 17-of-26 for 213 yards and tossed two touchdown passes, finding Dezmen Roebuck and Decker DeGraaf. Williams also showed his dual-threat capability with two rushing touchdowns of 25 and 11 yards. Running back Adam Mohammed contributed a career-high 108 rushing yards, helping Washington pile up 212 yards on the ground compared to UCLA’s mere 58. A pivotal play came when Alex McLaughlin returned a fumble 59 yards for a touchdown, turning the momentum firmly in Washington’s favor. .
On UCLA’s side, Nico Iamaleava struggled to get anything going, completing 16-of-26 passes for just 69 yards—and he left the game in the third quarter after taking some sacks. Backup Luke Duncan came in and connected with Mikey Matthews for a 37-yard touchdown, but it was too little, too late. The Bruins’ offense couldn’t sustain drives (just 10 first downs all game), and their special teams also made a mistake — a failed fake field goal led to Washington recovering a fumble for the pick-six.
Beyond the stat lines, this win is a big momentum boost for Washington, which now looks well-positioned for a bowl game. For UCLA, the loss is a tough blow—especially if this was, as some suggest, their final regular-season game at the historic Rose Bowl. Interim coach Tim Skipper acknowledged the weight of the moment, lamenting a rough night in a venue that holds so much meaning.
