UCLA Health Training Center was buzzing with South Bay Lakers fans ready to spectate the next game between the Lakers and the Gold!
The game started with Grand Rapids Gold scoring the first 2 points of the night, but this didn’t last long as Williams followed right after with the South Bay Lakers’ first 2 points
The South Bay Lakers bench got together during the first time out of the night and had an intense conversation, as players seemed focused on what the next moves were.
Grand Rapids Gold seemed to be dominating the entire first period. The Gold’s defense was going strong not allowing the South Bay Lakers a shot. However, Arthur Kaluma did not let this stop him as he helped the South Bay Lakers gain some momentum towards the lead. Taking the first quarter (28-23) the Grand Rapids Gold had the Lakers fans intensely waiting for the Lakers to find a way back
The start of the next remaining periods, the South Bay Lakers were radiating determination to take the lead over the Grand Rapids Gold. Tevian Jones (#5) was dominating the court and showing the Gold what the Lakers were capable of and why they hold their spot in the playoffs.
The defending was blazing as Dane Goodwin (#23) & Javante McCoy (#13) attempted to halt the Lakers’ momentum. While some plays were successful, the Lakers and Gold kept the scoreboard head to head.
The Grand Rapids Gold trailed right behind the Lakers, going back and forth with the lead during the 3rd quarter. At the end of the 3rd, South Bay Lakers ultimately took the lead (91-89) with fans roaring with anticipation and looking forward to what the performance is going to bring in the 4th. The Grand Rapids Gold started the 4th quarter but the Lakers were quick to defend their lead. As the game went on, the Grand Rapids performance was a nail-biter for the South Bay supporters and South Bay themselves, at this point not being sure who would take today’s dub.
Ending the night, the South Bay Lakers remained on top, taking the game 119-111. Fans were excited and left with bright smiles as this gave them a look into what to expect for future games in the playoffs for their Lakers.
