Los Angeles, CA – February 22, 2026 – Los Angeles FC kicked off the 2026 MLS regular season in emphatic fashion, defeating reigning MLS Cup champions Inter Miami CF 3-0 on Saturday night at the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. In front of a record-breaking crowd of 75,673—the highest-attended opening weekend game in MLS history and the second-highest single-game attendance ever in the league—LAFC delivered a commanding performance that sent a clear message: the Black & Gold are serious contenders.
The matchup pitted two of MLS’s biggest stars against each other: LAFC’s new signing Son Heung-min versus Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi. While Messi provided flashes of brilliance, LAFC’s organized defense—anchored by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris‘ clean sheet—stifled Miami throughout, limiting them to just three shots on target.
- 38′ – David Martínez (1-0): Son Heung-min split the Miami defense with a precise through ball, allowing Martínez to slot home confidently past goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair after capitalizing on a turnover.
- 73′ – Denis Bouanga (2-0): Bouanga showcased his clinical finishing, dinking the ball over a stranded St. Clair and rolling it into the empty net following another defensive error. Bouanga also assisted on the third goal later.
- 90’+4′ – Nathan Ordaz (3-0): The LAFC homegrown talent sealed the rout in stoppage time with a counter-attack finish assisted by Bouanga, capping a perfect night for the hosts.
LAFC remained unbeaten in all nine of their regular-season openers (9-0-0) and improved their all-time head-to-head record against Inter Miami to 4-2-0. The Black & Gold’s lineup stayed consistent from their recent CONCACAF Champions Cup win, showcasing depth and sharpness from the jump.
