TEMPE, Ariz. — What looked like a runaway win for the Valley Suns turned into a statement comeback for the Rip City Remix on Thursday night, as Portland’s G League affiliate erased a 20-point first-half deficit to defeat the Suns 107–104 at Mullet Arena.
The Remix were powered by a breakout performance from Dillon Jones, who poured in 30 points and took over the second half with a mix of downhill drives, transition buckets and tough mid-range finishes. Jones’ late-game poise helped Rip City close the door on one of the biggest early-season rallies in the G League.
The game also marked the G League debut of 7-foot-1 phenom Yang Hansen, whose presence was immediately felt. While Hansen’s stat line was modest, his rim protection and improved defensive rotations helped spark the defensive stand that fueled the comeback.
Valley Suns forward Rasheer Fleming delivered one of his strongest performances of the season with 23 points, keeping the Suns afloat in key stretches. The Suns also showcased the pro debut of Khaman Maluach, whose long-awaited arrival drew excitement from the crowd but was ultimately overshadowed by Rip City’s comeback surge.
The Suns controlled the first half, using hot shooting and pace to build a sizable 20-point cushion. But as the second half unfolded, momentum shifted sharply. Rip City tightened defensively, crashed the glass, and sparked a 17–2 run that completely flipped the feel of the game.
By the fourth quarter, the contest turned into a possession-by-possession battle. Jones scored or assisted on several critical plays in the final three minutes, including the go-ahead bucket inside the final minute. Valley had two chances to tie on the final possession but couldn’t convert.
The loss spoiled what could have been a celebratory night for Phoenix’s young talents and instead highlighted the toughness and resilience of a Rip City Remix squad that refused to fold.
Final Score: Rip City Remix 107, Valley Suns 104
