Bruins Rally Late to Stun Maryland in Rose Bowl Thriller

Today’s matchup between the UCLA Bruins and the Maryland Terrapins at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena turned into a classic late-game thriller. UCLA, trailing for much of the game, surged in the fourth quarter and sealed a 20-17 victory.   Maryland had fought hard and even held a lead into the late stages, but UCLA’s final drive — aided by a key fourth-and-10 conversion and a 35-yard run by Anthony Frias II — set up the game-winning field goal.

From the outset, both defenses dominated. Maryland forced three turnovers, including an interception return for a touchdown that gave them a lead in the third quarter. UCLA, meanwhile, capitalized on a breakout 55-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, yet still found themselves trailing 10-7 deep into the fourth. It wasn’t until that late-game sequence — including a tipped pass interception by UCLA’s Scooter Jackson and the drive culminating in the field goal — that the tide turned decisively.

For Maryland, the outcome stings. They traveled across the country for this big game, hoping to rebound from recent disappointments and secure bowl eligibility.   Though they showed grit and had multiple chances, they fell short in execution down the stretch. For UCLA, the win marks their third straight and signals that their mid-season turnaround is very real.   The Bruins’ resilience will be the talk of the program this week, while Maryland must now reset quickly as their season enters a critical phase.
