San Francisco, shorthanded and with backup quarterback Mac Jones under center, leaned on resilience and execution when it mattered most. Jones delivered a remarkable performance, throwing for 342 yards and two touchdowns. Wideout Kendrick Bourne was his go-to target, hauling in 10 receptions for 142 yards, while Christian McCaffrey once again did a bit of everything, adding a touchdown and steady all-purpose yards.

The Rams, though, had chances to put the game away. Matthew Stafford turned in one of his best games of the year, throwing for 389 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Kyren Williams contributed 131 total yards and two receiving scores but also committed costly errors — a fumble near the goal line in the fourth quarter and a red-zone mistake in overtime that tilted momentum back to San Francisco.
Los Angeles trailed by as many as 13 points before storming back. With time winding down, rookie kicker Joshua Karty drilled a clutch field goal to force overtime, sending the SoFi crowd into a frenzy.
Rams' Rally Falls Short
But overtime belonged to San Francisco. Kicker Eddy Piñeiro capped a steady drive with a 41-yard field goal, giving the 49ers a 26-23 edge. On the Rams’ answering possession, they drove deep into the red zone, only to stall. Facing a decisive 4th-and-1 at the 11-yard line, the Rams’ play call was stuffed, leaving the ball — and the game — in San Francisco’s hands.
A final defensive stand by the 49ers, punctuated by a crucial fumble recovery from Alfred Collins, sealed the win and silenced the Rams’ faithful.
For Los Angeles, the game underscored ongoing issues: red-zone inefficiency, costly turnovers, and missed opportunities in critical moments. Despite the fireworks from Stafford and his receivers, the Rams walked off their home field knowing this one slipped through their fingers.
Meanwhile, the 49ers showed grit with a depleted roster, proving they remain one of the NFC’s most dangerous teams no matter who is under center.
