USC Dominates Cal Poly in Season-Opening Statement

The Trojans came into the game energized and sharp from the tip‐off, taking control early and never letting it slip away. They built a commanding lead by halftime, leveraging efficient shooting and strong defense to keep Cal Poly at bay. By the final buzzer, USC posted a 94-64 victory.

USC’s execution on both ends was notable: they shot 46.0 % from the field while holding Cal Poly to just 33.3 % as a team.   The Trojans also pulled down 44 rebounds to the Mustangs’ 40, indicating that USC was doing well on the glass and limiting second‐chance opportunities.   Meanwhile Cal Poly struggled to get much going offensively, especially in the paint and on turnovers, which allowed USC to keep widening the gap.

For USC this game serves as a strong statement of intent for the upcoming season. After a 17-18 finish last year, and moving into a tough conference schedule, the Trojans needed a confident start.   They showed signs of cohesion and ability to dominate when they’re locked in. For Cal Poly, the night was a challenge—and a reminder of the gulf that can exist between schedules—but they can use the experience as a benchmark for where they need to improve. Overall, it was a night that reinforced USC’s potential and set a positive tone moving forward.
