After a tough 2–1 road defeat to Sacramento Republic FC, Orange County SC returned to Championship Stadium determined to climb back above the playoff line. Despite the team’s relentless energy, the home side had to settle for a goalless draw against El Paso Locomotive FC on Saturday night.
First-Half Pressure and Missed Chances
El Paso opened the match with intensity, pressing high and trying to dictate the tempo early. However, as the first half wore on, Orange County found its rhythm and began creating danger on the counter. The best opportunity of the night came in the 35th minute when Cameron Dunbar connected with Ryan Doghman’s clever setup, but his shot flew just over the bar, keeping the score level.
Defensive Discipline and Young Talent Shine
The second half became a tactical battle of control and patience. Orange County held 55% possession, pressing forward in search of a breakthrough, while El Paso responded with compact defending and quick transitions.
A highlight of the night came in the 77th minute, when 16-year-old center-back Tyson Espy made his home debut. The young defender impressed with composure beyond his years, recording four key defensive actions and a 94% pass accuracy in his short time on the pitch.
Shutler’s Clean Sheet and Team Effort
Goalkeeper Colin Shutler stood firm between the posts, producing five crucial saves to secure Orange County’s first clean sheet in eight games.
OCSC finished with 11 shots—only one on target—while El Paso fired 12 shots, five on frame. Possession was nearly even, with 51% to Orange County and 49% to the visitors.

What's Next?
The Orange and Black will stay home for a highly anticipated California Classic matchup against San Antonio FC on October 15th at Championship Stadium, as the playoff race heats up in the USL Championship’s final stretch.
Head Coach Danny Stone –
On the game:
“It was our, first clean sheet for a while, which obviously earns us the point in the end, and maybe that turns out to be a valuable point. I think my feeling from the game overall is, I’m a bit disappointed not to have done more to go and win the game. I felt we put a pretty attacking team out tonight with the intention to go after the game and get three points.
My feeling tonight is that I hope that’s a valuable point, but right now, I feel disappointed that we didn’t take three points from the game. I felt we didn’t do enough in terms of creating enough clear opportunities, in terms of making their goalkeeper have to make saves in the game.
We had two or three good opportunities to win the game, one nil, very good chances that are key moments in the game that we didn’t take. And that’s what probably cost us two points tonight.
That was a game we wanted to go after, and I felt we were lacking a little bit in some presence and some energy in the game tonight early on, and it took us too long to get going. That was the message at halftime, and I think we improved a little bit in the second half, but again, overall, not enough over 90 the plus minutes to go and take the game.”
The message in the locker room, is a disappointment from tonight not to win the game, which I think is always good when you don’t win games at home. Like I said, maybe tonight is a valuable point for us.
