LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Clippers entered the 2025-26 NBA season with one of the most experienced and talent-laden rosters in franchise history, and Media Day served as a powerful introduction to what head coach Tyronn Lue called the “deepest team we’ve ever had.”
From roster upgrades to leadership chemistry, Monday’s event at the team’s training facility set a clear tone: this team is focused, unified, and poised for a serious run.
Lue Confident in Clippers’ Depth: “The Deepest Team We’ve Ever Had”
Head Coach Tyronn Lue opened his remarks with one of the most telling quotes of the day.
“This is the deepest team we’ve ever had,” Lue said. “We’ve got guys who can play every position, and guys that can step in at any moment. That matters when you’re trying to win at the highest level.”
Lue emphasized that while depth is a luxury, it also presents challenges — namely, managing playing time and keeping everyone ready and engaged. But the potential, he said, is unlike anything the Clippers have had before.
Chris Paul and Ty Lue Reunite: A Full-Circle Moment
Among the most intriguing storylines this offseason was the addition of veteran point guard Chris Paul. For Lue, Paul’s arrival represents a full-circle moment in his basketball journey.
“It’s special,” Lue said. “We’ve competed against each other for years. To now be working together, it’s come full circle — and I couldn’t be more excited to have him leading our group.”
Paul’s high basketball IQ, veteran presence, and on-court leadership are expected to be critical for the Clippers, especially in late-game situations and playoff scenarios.
CP3 Establishing Himself as the Vocal Leader
While players like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George continue to lead by example, Chris Paul has emerged as the vocal heartbeat of the locker room.
“He’s the loudest voice in the room,” Lue said. “He’s bringing a different level of communication and intensity. Guys listen when he speaks.”
That leadership has already begun to shape the team’s identity, with younger players reportedly gravitating toward Paul’s mentorship, and veterans feeding off his urgency and preparation.
James Harden: "I Want to Play Every Night"
James Harden also spoke to the media with a renewed sense of commitment and focus. When asked about his role and expectations, Harden didn’t hesitate.
“I want to play every night,” he said. “I feel good. I’m locked in. I just want to go out there and help us win.”
After a season full of speculation and distractions in 2024, Harden’s commitment to being available — and productive — is a significant development for the Clippers’ championship aspirations.
Kawhi Leonard Returning to His Natural Position
Another underappreciated impact of the new roster configuration is that Kawhi Leonard will now be able to return to his natural position at small forward.
“That’s where Kawhi’s most comfortable,” Lue confirmed. “With CP and James handling the ball, Kawhi doesn’t have to create as much — he can focus on doing what he does best.”
The move allows Leonard to operate more freely on offense and anchor the defense without the burden of excessive ball-handling duties.
Veteran Leadership Creating Real Chemistry
With Chris Paul and James Harden now joining forces with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Brook Lopez, and Serge Ibaka, the Clippers boast one of the most experienced cores in the league. That leadership, according to Lue, is already paying dividends.
“The leadership we have now is what brings it all together,” Lue said. “There’s accountability, there’s structure, and there’s a shared understanding of what it takes to win.”
From structured practices to intense film sessions, the tone is being set from the top — and younger players are buying in.
Looking Ahead
The Clippers enter the new season with expectations — not just from fans or media, but from within the building. There’s no mistaking the message from Media Day: this team is not interested in narratives or speculation. They’re focused on results.
With elite depth, established leadership, and a clear sense of purpose, the Clippers have laid the foundation for what could be their most competitive season yet.
Now, it’s time to prove it.
