In a high-scoring matchup in Washington, the Los Angeles Clippers (17–23) took control early and delivered a commanding 119–105 victory over the Washington Wizards (10–29) on Wednesday night at Intuit Arena.
From the opening tip, LA looked like the sharper team. The Clippers jumped out to a big first-quarter lead, outscoring Washington 37–22 behind a flurry of offense from Kawhi Leonard and solid supporting play from Nicolas Batum and Jordan Miller.
By halftime, L.A.’s balance and ball movement kept the pressure on the Wizards, who struggled to keep pace with the Clippers’ efficient scoring.
Kawhi Leonard was sensational for LA — finishing with 33 points, collecting rebounds, and contributing on both ends of the court. He was a matchup nightmare throughout the night, attacking closeouts and knocking down shots from deep. Leonard’s aggressiveness helped the Clippers sustain their lead through the third quarter.
For the Wizards, Kyshawn George led Washington with 23 points, while Khris Middleton chipped in 17. Despite flashes of scoring and effort, Washington couldn’t contain the Clippers’ relentless offense and rebounding, particularly through the middle quarters where LA outpaced them.
The Wizards’ cold shooting from three and early deficit proved too much to overcome, and despite a late push, they couldn’t seriously threaten the Clippers’ lead.
Washington will look to regroup at home, while the Clippers will hope to build momentum on the road as they continue their January schedule.
