Bruins Rise Above: UCLA Sweeps USC in Statement Win

Today’s highly anticipated UCLA–USC women’s volleyball showdown at Pauley Pavilion delivered in spades, with the Bruins sweeping the Trojans in straight sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-15.   UCLA’s dominance was evident at the net, where they racked up nine total blocks and held USC to a season-low hitting percentage of .115.

In the first two sets, USC fought hard—jumping out to an early lead in Set 1—but UCLA answered with a ferocious run.   Marianna Singletary spearheaded the Bruins’ defense with six blocks, while Cheridyn Leverette led the offense with 14 kills at a .290 clip.   Freshman Eliana Urzua also made her mark with 11 kills and seven digs, and setter Kate Duffey posted 30 assists and 11 digs in a balanced performance.   On defense, libero Lola Schumacher delivered 11 digs, continuing her reliable presence in the back row.

USC’s offense never quite found its stride. Their early burst in Set 1 stalled under pressure, and they were unable to mount a meaningful comeback in Sets 2 or 3. The Bruins’ stout blocking and disciplined defense consistently neutralized Trojan attacks, while UCLA’s attack options stayed varied and efficient. With this win, UCLA not only asserted dominance in the Los Angeles rivalry but also added a signature victory to their Big Ten campaign.
