Anaheim, CA – August 4, 2025 — The Los Angeles Angels delivered a commanding performance on Sunday night, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 at Angel Stadium behind solid pitching and timely hitting.
Starter Reid Detmers was lights out on the mound, tossing seven strong innings and allowing just one run on four hits while striking out eight. The left-hander kept the Rays’ offense off balance all night, working efficiently and confidently to earn his ninth win of the season.
On the offensive side, the Angels wasted no time getting on the board. Mike Trout led the charge with a two-run double in the first inning, setting the tone early. Logan O’Hoppe added a solo homer in the fourth, while Zach Neto and Taylor Ward each chipped in with RBI singles to extend the lead.
Tampa Bay’s only run came on a solo shot from Yandy Díaz in the sixth, but it wasn’t nearly enough to spark a comeback as the Rays struggled to generate momentum against Detmers.
The win marked a strong bounce-back for the Angels, who had dropped their previous two games. With the victory, they improved to 58-52 on the season and remain in the thick of the American League Wild Card race.
The two teams will wrap up the series Monday night, with the Angels looking to build on their momentum and close out the homestand with another win.
