The LA Galaxy were held to a 1-1 draw by the Seattle Sounders on Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park, surrendering a late equalizer after taking the lead just before halftime.
Marco Reus gave the Galaxy the advantage in the 44th minute, calmly converting a penalty after Seattle midfielder Paul Rothrock was called for a foul on Hirving “Chucky” Lozano. The goal was Reus’ fifth of the season, matching his career high from last year.
Los Angeles carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime, but Seattle gradually found more opportunities after the break. Galaxy goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski kept his team in front with several important saves, ultimately finishing with seven stops.
The turning point came in the 81st minute. Paul Arriola, who had entered the match just two minutes earlier, finished off a Seattle attack to level the score. Jordan Morris supplied the assist, giving the Sounders a point after they had fallen behind.
The match also featured an interesting subplot for Galaxy supporters: Dejan Joveljić was back in Carson wearing Seattle colors. Joveljić previously played for the Galaxy before moving on to Sporting Kansas City and then Seattle. On Saturday, he started against his former club but was substituted in the 79th minute—just two minutes before Arriola scored the equalizer.
For Seattle, the draw extended a difficult run. The Sounders have now gone 12 consecutive MLS matches without a win, although Saturday’s result was their fourth straight draw following a club-record eight-match losing streak.
For the Galaxy, the frustration will be that a promising home performance produced only one point. Los Angeles had the lead for most of the second half but could not close out the victory.
The two teams will now turn their attention to the next phase of the Western Conference race. The Galaxy travel to Minnesota United next Saturday, while Seattle visits the Colorado Rapids.
