WASHINGTON, D.C. — August 19, 2026 — Alhassan Yusuf delivered a night to remember at Audi Field on Wednesday, scoring all three goals as the New England Revolution shut out D.C. United, 3-0. Yusuf struck in the 23rd, 45th and 66th minutes, completing a clinical hat trick that D.C. simply had no answer for. The performance marked Yusuf’s first multi-goal match in MLS and powered New England to a convincing road victory.
New England controlled the tempo for much of the match, finishing with 60% possession compared to D.C. United’s 40%. That advantage translated into more opportunities in the attacking third, with the Revolution putting seven shots on goal while holding D.C. to just three. United’s frustration also showed physically, committing 15 fouls compared to New England’s 10 as the home side struggled to disrupt the Revolution’s rhythm.
While Yusuf stole the headlines with his hat trick, Mamadou Fofana played an important role in New England’s success at the other end of the field. Wearing No. 2, Fofana proved to be a constant obstacle whenever D.C. attempted to break through the Revolution defense. His speed, positioning and ability to rapidly close down attackers allowed him to move from one assignment to another, repeatedly shutting down potential opportunities before United could develop them into serious threats.
For D.C. United, the match became increasingly difficult after Yusuf’s second goal arrived just before halftime. Any hopes of mounting a second-half comeback took another major hit in the 66th minute when Yusuf struck for a third time, completing his hat trick and putting the match firmly beyond D.C.’s reach. From there, New England protected its advantage and walked out of Audi Field with a commanding 3-0 victory.
D.C. United will have little time to dwell on the defeat as they turn their attention to their next match on Saturday, August 22, when they travel to face Charlotte FC. United will look to regroup on the road and respond after a difficult night at Audi Field.
