CARSON, Calif. — After a winless streak that continues for now, the LA Galaxy finally gave fans a reason for optimism with a 0-0 draw against FC Dallas at home after earning a point against the San Jose Earthquakes.
The Galaxy needed an extra boost in attacking power, and that is exactly what they got with their newest signing. Kyogo Furuhashi, who arrived from Birmingham City, will wear the club’s No. 7 jersey while occupying an international roster slot. The Japanese forward showcased his eagerness to score by immediately looking for a goal on his debut just seconds after coming on as a substitute in the 67th minute.
FC Dallas also had a player shine in Petar Musa, the current leader in the MLS Golden Boot race. Musa finished with seven shots against the Galaxy, proving he is determined to extend his lead. Dallas also earned a defensive shutout, as its back line prevented the Galaxy from converting their attacking opportunities. However, the same could be said for the Galaxy’s defense and goalkeeping.
Galaxy goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski delivered one of his best performances of the season, recording four saves, including a point-blank stop on Musa early in the first half. Marcinkowski made himself big and came up with a brave save just inches from the goal line. Head coach Greg Vanney praised his goalkeeper during the postgame press conference.
“That was a great save. That was a big moment, and he became brave and he stayed big,” Vanney said.
Vanney also said Marcinkowski’s maturity and experience were key to his performance and will continue to be important for the Galaxy in the matches ahead.
The Galaxy will now have a short break to help the team adjust to its new forward and continue building chemistry before returning to action on Aug. 15 against the Houston Dynamo in Texas.
