First Half: Building the Lead
Jordi Alba opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, finishing a pristine through ball from Sergio Busquets to give Miami a well-earned lead heading into the break.
Second Half: Galaxy Strike Back—but Messi Responds
LA Galaxy answered early in the second stanza when Joseph Paintsil tied it in the 59th minute, showing off individual brilliance to carve through Miami’s defense.
Messi entered the game at halftime, marking his return after a hamstring injury.
In the 84th minute, Messi delivered a sublime solo goal—dribbling past defenders and finishing with precision to restore Miami’s advantage.
Just five minutes later, Messi set up Luis Suárez with a sensational back-heel assist, allowing Suárez to bury the third and final goal of the night in the 89th minute.
What made the Match So special
Messi’s Triumphant (and Careful) Return
Messi’s performance was pivotal—and he delivered when it mattered, with both a goal and a dazzling assist.
But it wasn’t all smooth: he clearly showed muscle tightness, avoided taking corner kicks, and celebrated in a subdued manner. Concerns now swirl over his readiness for the Leagues Cup quarter-final against Tigres UANL on August 20.
Team Tactics and Impact
Coach Javier Mascherano appears to have timed Messi’s return carefully—subbing him at halftime to balance impact with recovery.
Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets anchored the opening and connected the buildup, respectively, while Suárez finished clinically late on.
.
Final Word
Inter Miami’s 3–1 win over LA Galaxy today was defined by Messi’s timely return—his artistry turned a tense match into a statement victory. His muscular issues add a note of concern heading into the Leagues Cup, but on this night, his brilliance was enough to carry Miami to a meaningful triumph.
